Duke's Moto Electric Update #4 Bikes Bikes Bikes!

In an attempt to keep my inventory low, since I only have so much space to store them, I've decided on lowering all prices on all bikes.

I did this last Saturday night by lowering the prices I was asking on Craigslist by $20. On Sunday morning, I was flooded with requests to see the bikes! I only had four last weekend for sale, and there is no way I can keep track of over 100 interested parties for that few bikes. By this Sunday I hope to have ten or fifteen bikes for sale!

I think I've come up with a solution to this problem.
First, I'll post up all bikes for sale here on the blog as they become available. Blog followers will get first crack at them.
Second, I'll post them on my Facebook page. People who follow my Facebook page will get a second crack at them. https://www.facebook.com/pg/DukesMotoElectric/posts/
Third, I'll post them on the local stuff for sale Facebook page. This page is what overwhelmed me last weekend. There was no way I could even reply to all the interested parties. I apologize if I never got back to anyone, I did try.
Fourth is Craigslist. I sold half of the bikes from Craigslist adds last weekend, but I find the attitude there somewhat insulting. If I post a three speed bike for $200, don't ask me if I'll take $180. You won't leave with the bike for less than $220 if you do! I don't know what part of "This price is etched in stone" people on Craigslist don't understand.  If I'm selling a bike on Craigslist for $200, most likely it's a $265 - $300 bike to begin with, never ridden, and usually better than new! One guy asked me if I would take $50 for a bike I was selling for $100, that costs $165 retail. I replied "$150 for you!" Don't be insulting with your offers people! For a lot of these bikes for sale, if you ask me to take $20 off the price, you're asking for me to give you the bike for free. Profit margins are slim! Don't be an asshole or you can go pay retail!

I have a bunch of bikes coming in this week that were returned to the seller due to shipping damage or buyers regret. I don't always have brand new out of box bikes. Sometimes I do. Last weekend I did.

Each bike gets taken apart, grease in all the right spots, parts replaced with new if damaged, reassembled and professionally tuned.

In some cases where paint scratches were the reason for the return, the entire bike is stripped down, repainted with five coats of enamel, and three coats of clear. I should charge at least $200 above retail price for this service since the paint job is much better than from the factory, but for these bikes. I will try to keep the price the same as retail. Just look up the price for a quality bike paint job. I bet it's around $300 bucks for a bike you already own! I may change my mind about this one day, but for now it's the same as retail for this service. The retail price is usually around 50% higher than I like to sell my bikes for, but you actually get more than what you pay for with new paint on the bike. It will never rust if it's made of steel unlike a factory paint job!

LA Lakers Need Bikes?

If any of you guys are reading this, I know some of you have custom extra large choppers in your garage, I know the guys who built them, but what about when you just want to hit the beach?

Yeah, a bike that fits a NBA player!

Party with the grey beards!

The Dennis Rodman version!

Of course this is an electric bike company, so I wouldn't try to sell you one of these bikes without a motor. I'm thinking 3000w of power in a mid drive setup. Hey, when you play for the Lakers, no cop is going to give you a ticket at Venice Beach for riding around on a bike that is illegally powerful, and if they do, you can afford to pay it.

E-Krate Demo Bikes Or Not?

The Bikes Schwinn should of, and I think would of made back in the 1970's if E-Bike technology existed back then!

I have two more bikes I should sell, but I'm thinking I want to keep them. My own version of the Krate Stingray, but with motors, and made for adults.

Both are Firmstrong Urban Men's Beach Cruiser bikes. One is chrome single speed, and the other is candy red with Nexus three speed Internal geared hub. I'm thinking about making them demonstration ebike models. I would set them both up with 500w mid drive motors. Maybe the 1000w BBSHD would be a good option as well with front break upgrades.

For the chrome bike:
1. White pleated Banana seat and chrome sissy bar.
2. White vintage Schwinn style grips and block pedals.
3. Chrome springer forks.
4. Proprietary disk brake setup for springer forks to allow for better ebike breaking.
5. Ape hanger bars.
6. Chrome rear half fender just like the vintage Krate bikes.
7. White Wall Tires.

For the candy Red bike:
1. Red banana seat with chrome sissy bar. (Although, riding it home today with the ape bars, it would look equally bad ass with the regular seat with or without a rack).
2. Red vintage Schwinn style grips.
3. Ape hanger bars.
4. Black vintage Schwinn style block pedals.
5. Factory forks upgraded with brakes. The candy color is too cool to replace with a chrome or black springer fork setup. The more candy the better!
6. I'm thinking black diamond tread tires.
7. Chrome rear half fender just like the vintage Krate bikes.

The bike I brought home today didn't have the white wall tires in this photo. Aside from having black tires, this is what I started out with this afternoon. I also found out that the ape bars I scored, are a bit rare these days, and expensive when you can find them. That makes them a super sweet score!

For Beach Cruisers, I'm impressed with this models welds. Other manufacturers, not so good. Here's a hint for you if you're out looking at a Beach cruiser to buy. Look at the welds where the two parallel bars meet the backbone and the seat tube. On some bikes, these parallel bars turn into the seat stays after passing the seat tube. On some bikes they end and another set are used for seat stays. In any case, look at the welds where these parallel bars connect to the back bone (top of frame triangle). If they look like a bird pooped them out, don't buy the bike!!! Not all Beach Cruisers are the same. Some are made better than others. Firmstrong makes a sturdy bike that weighs less than others.

I'm also thinking about making a powerful LED rear light to look like the Stingray reflector. By powerful, what I mean is, bright enough to get dumb people to look up from their smart phones in time to keep from hitting you!

Look how the mini ape bars are at the kids waist height in the photo.

One thing I mean when I say these bikes are for adults, is that the bikes themselves are quite a bit bigger than a old Stingray. I'm 6'-2" and the ape bars are about 5" below my shoulders when standing next to the bike. This is very comfortable when riding the bike!

With the Firmstrong setup, the seat would also be lower than in the above photo, unless you play for the Lakers, and make me look like a short guy! Sliding back on the seat allows for a lower seat, and still allows for positive forward pedaling.

What about forward pedaling? Yeah, it's a good idea! All of the most expensive Beach Cruiser manufacturers are making one! The banana seat Stingray was around long before that, and was the original forward pedal bike! Not only that, but it's an adjustable forward pedal bike! Just slide forward or back to suit your comfort needs!!!

As a side note about all the Firmstrong bikes, for making a dependable and strong electric bike that won't fall apart on you, you couldn't do better for the price point with good welds, and lifetime guarantee for the basic bike before adding E stuff to it.

I think this bike is suitable for up to 1000w motor with the addition of front V brake, or 3000w with a front disk brake.

Also, look at the room in the frame for a battery pack!!! Sky is the limit for a giant battery for extremely long range!

The combination of a front suspension front end, spring seat, and balloon beach bike tires, makes for a very comfortable commuter bike!

Duke's Moto Electric Update #3 The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good
Actually, it's better than good. It's GREAT!
I now have literally a ton of new and like new bikes for sale at unbelievable discount prices!
I've been busy loading up on inventory, and I'm about full to capacity for my little shop!

These bikes can be made into ebikes, or help fund the progress of the ebike business by being sold as regular pedal bikes at discount prices!

The Bad
Despite the above good, work has been slow, and it's been hard to stock up on ebike stuff.  I would like to have a small inventory of Motors, BMS, Chargers, and a few other things, but the funds just haven't been available as of yet. It's not too bad since I only have interest in building one off custom bikes at the moment.

The worst part, is that I would like to have a bunch of these new bikes available with shop battery packs for potential customers to test ride before making a decision. A shop battery pack would allow this without having to build a customer pack until ordering, assuring the strongest long life USA made pack in the industry. None of the major brands care enough to do this. In this industry full of fraud, stretching the truth, and outright lies, it's not enough for me to say that you are going to get the very best hand built ebike. I have to show you with a test ride. Even if that test ride takes a day or a week, I want you to be completely satisfied with what you're about to purchase before spending any money. NO OTHER EBIKE COMPANY will offer a week long test ride just to be sure you will be satisfied with the bike before purchase! If I wasn't 100% confident in the quality of the bikes themselves, and the components, I wouldn't offer more than a 5 minute test ride!

The Ugly
I hate to say it, but this is a part continuation of update #2 with computer problems.
Computer is getting slower, and opening less windows. Nothing has worked to correct, or even slow the degradation.

I went out yesterday and picked up an older (XP) tower hoping that it would work, but haven't had any time to check it out, so I'm still on the old box. What a pain in the ass! I know that this old box will be slow as a snail, but a snail is faster than a page that won't open no matter what.

It literally takes for ever on this old box to access my mail, let alone start a website. Maybe I should of posted this above under good, but yes, a website is in progress.

I ask that everyone be patient threw this time of transition.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my ebike blog.

Plus Bikes, A Great Choice For Ebike Build

    .

    He forgot about ebikes!

The weight factor is not as big of an issue with ebikes. This makes the rolling over stuff better for a 29 than a 27.5, but the motors like the 27.5 better than the 29.  Everything else was spot on point!

    Electric Surfboard

It's electric! I want five of these!

Motobecane Boris x5 or x7 Fat Tire E-Mountain Bike

Motobecane Boris Fat Tire Mountain Bike With 750w Mid Drive / 1000w Mid Drive / 2000w Mid Drive / 3000w Mid Drive Motor Options, with base model starting at only $1550.

The Boris seven speed is a good quality mountain bike at a value price point! I compare it to more expensive bikes like the KHS. Why spend extra on components that are less important with an electric bike when you can use that money to upgrade the most important parts like Hydraulic ebike brakes, Suspension front fork, or a bigger battery to make this the best ebike money can buy.

This bike will do whatever you want it to do! It's a real mountain bike that can be jumped, freestyle, and down hill raced! This is not a cheap manufactured Chinese import that only claims to be a mountain bike! It's the real deal! With the fat tires, the Boris x7 is equally at home at the beach or in the snow as it is racing down a mountain trail!

Compare the Boris x5 or x7 to other bikes of same quality for price. The closest bike I've seen in comparison is from KHS and it costs $500 more just for the base bike. The KHS is a very nice well made bike, but so is the Motobecane. If you upgrade components with that money saved, you can have better components than the KHS for the same price! I strongly recommend upgrading to Hydraulic ebike disk brakes, and the largest battery that will fit. These two upgrades alone will guarantee you years of trouble free fun!

    Shimano E-Hydro Brake!

    IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!

Yeah, I'm excited this morning as I write this! First I posted about the new little motor available, and now this offering from Shimano! I was just saying yesterday how Shimano didn't offer a hydro ebrake. Three hours later, they do!

I can't wait to get one and try it out against the competition!  We will have a contest to see who makes the better Hydro e-brake. Shimano vs Tektro Dorado HD-E710!

    The competition from Tektro!

Shimano had better of done their homework on this one! The offering from Tektro will be hard to beat!!!
I can't wait to see who has the better brake!!!

    TSDZ2 500w Mid Drive Motor

     These are excellent little motors!
I haven't considered offering them until now because they hadn't been out long enough to pass the torture test of time. The results are in, and this little guy has passed with flying colors! Not only have they proven themselves to be reliable, they have also been upgraded from 350w to 500w of power! People have been experimenting with hot rodding the little guy, and have come up with much more than 500w, but for the sake of dependability I'm thinking that the 500w mark is right on target.

     ...

It comes with a nice display screen that's easy
to read while going down the road. The earlier models
come with only a power assist feature, but now, a
throttle can be added for anyone who would rather
    use one.

I'll be offering these motors installed on any bike you like.

I think that 500w is just right for most people on a commuter bike or beach cruiser. If you want to ride on the sand, then a more powerful motor would be needed, but for just cruising up and down the beach path, this is a great choice for anyone.

One thing I love about this motor, is that it's just powerful enough to provide tons of fun, but not so powerful that you wind up limited to using only a few drive line options. Your sprockets won't need to be replaced frequently, and any internal geared hub can be used with it, with no worry about breaking it with tons of toque.

This motor is about twice as powerful as most expensive electric bikes found at your local bike store! The price point for the TSDZ2 is quite reasonable at under $400 including shipping, so it's not going to break the bank, and can always be upgraded if you decide you want a more powerful motor in the future.

I could keep writing on and on because I'm excited about offering this motor, but I won't because I don't want to write an ebike novel here. I hope to have a demonstration model set up soon for customers to test ride, and a test ride is worth more than a thousand words written in a blog post!
